gotta see it on larger scale. It's a good thought. Hope it works not just in a small lab setting.

"...have produced five litres of petrol in less than three months at a small refinery..."
I guess I won't hold my breath for this REALLY becoming feasible.

If it sounds too good to be true...
That being said one must remember the law of conservation of energy and matter. Matter and energy cannot come from "thin air". Just how much energy does it take to capture and compress down that CO2 per liter? I'm thinking wind and solar won't be able to cut it on the tonne side. The process will probably need a boost from outside sources.

It's carbon neutral only if the energy to power this crap can be generated from renewable sources. It would be a game changer (lol) only if the true cost of the gas that is made wasn't so high. But let britain payfor this crap with british taxpayer money. Keep us out of this stuff.

Maybe we can get the cost down to $5000 a gallon so the government can buy it for the military.

You could get all the co2 you need more easily from a smokestack.

Yeah sure. They had a TV set in the fifties that received a test pattern from a Houston TV station (KLEE-TV) three years after the station went off the air also. Those Brit engineers do some of the most impossible things.

Talk about "pie in the sky" or maybe they'd call it "petrol in the sky". There is no way this can be done economically. It would take far too much electricity to make this happen.
Just use the electricity to charge EV batteries and cut out the middle man.

From the description, sounds like it TAKES MORE ENERGY AND MONEY to create the product than you get back from fueling a vehicle.

And electricity comes from thin air?
This will mean more coal burning since greenies fight against nuke plants.
Not likely to leave the lab.

From The Sun to Fox News to us: Ayn Rand's static electricity machine!!!
But even better – it combats global warming by removing the excess CO2 from the air!
Now, all we need is a blackboard with most of the equation for the crossover erased....

Are you joking???? Five litres of petro in less than three months. That should take you 10 minutes down the road. Know the next car has to wait 3 months down the road so he can go 10 minutes down the road.
